Classification: Part-time position with general hours from 8 am-4 pm and the expectation of joining the team for training in August and all staff and team meetings.

Position Summary: The Support Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a Christ-centered, nurturing learning environment grounded in the Charlotte Mason philosophy. This position supports teachers, students, and families by promoting holistic child development—spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally. Rooted in the belief that each child is a person made in the image of God, the specialist assists in implementing rich, living curriculum experiences, habit training, and gentle discipline. The specialist works collaboratively to support classroom instruction, child development, and habit training while helping implement educational programs aligned with developmental milestones and spiritual growth. Through collaboration with educators and staff, the specialist helps ensure that classroom practices reflect both educational excellence and the values of grace, truth, and love.
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
A deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a strong commitment to the mission of Christian education.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Special Education, or a related field.
Experience teaching and/or leading preferably in a Charlotte Mason setting.
A passion for serving in an urban, missional context, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities it presents.
Strong leadership, communication, and relational skills
Be an active member in good standing at a Christian church.
Preference given to Spanish speaker.
Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal skills are required when interacting with all stakeholders.
Experience and/or certification in delivering instruction to children.
Demonstrate willingness to continually learn and improve classroom management and instruction for children with learning differences.
Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate leadership with a growth mindset and interpersonal skills including collaborative communication, flexibility, empathy and humility.
Collaborate with the lead teacher to create an environment conducive to students’ spiritual, academic, and social development.
Model and apply City School’s Christian religious beliefs, mission, vision, values, philosophy of education, and student formation beliefs.
Demonstrate growth in understanding of the Charlotte Mason approach to education.
Support the integration of Charlotte Mason principles, including habit training, narration, nature study, and exposure to living books.
Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, including academic guidance, behavior support, and social-emotional encouragement.
Collaborate with the lead teacher to establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class.
Foster a calm, respectful classroom environment that reflects biblical values and nurtures the whole child—mind, body, and spirit.
Implement effective developmentally appropriate lessons that are developed by the lead teacher to help increase student outcomes in their core subjects.
Communicate well with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
Attend mandatory staff meetings, special events, professional development sessions, and teacher work days.
Effectively steward all designated school materials and equipment.
